`Vengeance' Is Sweet at Box Office

The feature film "Sympathy for Lady Vengeance" was seen by some 1.45 million people in the first four days of its theatrical release, the best opening weekend for a film this year.

The film, which is the third installment of Park Chan-wook's trilogy on the subject of revenge, opened on 370 screens throughout the nation and brought in 250,000 viewers on Friday, its first day of opening. In its first four days, the film was seen by 387,000 people in Seoul.

Prior to "Lady Vengeance", Steven Spielberg's epic film "War of the Worlds" had recorded the best opening weekend of the year, bringing in 1.43 million people in four days.

"Island", the science fiction film starring Ewan McGregor and Scarlette Johansson, came in second at the weekend box office, drawing 187,000 in Seoul. In its second week of release, the film is set to break the 2-million-viewer mark.

"Stealth" and "Robots" came in at third and fourth, respectively, at the box office, while the films "War of the Worlds" and "Madagascar" tied for fifth place.
